Historic Route 20 Maps

Google Maps Version

We have prepared a Google Maps version for taking the historic alignments of Route 20 across the country. It is color coordinated and easy to follow. Highly recommended to avoid bypasses, four lane highways and interstates.

MAP KEY

RED - The original 1926 alignment of US Route 20 that is still drivable today.

ORANGE - The original 1926 alignment of US Route 20 that still exists as a gravel road today.

PURPLE - The original 1926 alignment of US Route 20 that still exists today, but is a segment and does not connect in its entirety to the original alignment.

GREEN - An alignment of US Route 20 post-1926

OLIVE - A connector alignment to connect a section of the Historic alignment that is missing.

BLUE - (1) An original 1926 alignment of US Route 20 that is still drivable today. (2) An alternate alignment that at one time in history was US Route 20. These alignments were changed prior to 1938 and culturally do not identify with US Route 20, but their place for historic value is noted.

PINK - No longer exists, but shows where the original alignment once was located.

TEAL - An abandoned section of the original alignment of US Route 20 that can be seen, but not drivable. Some sections may be on private property now.

YELLOW - Bypass - Intended for those walking or biking the route where pedestrians are not permitted on Interstate Highways or for safety reasons.
